Perse Climbing Academy

The Perse Climbing Academy provides first-class climbing and bouldering coaching, following the National Indoor Climbing Award Schemes (NICAS).

Our Approach

We believe that climbing and bouldering are not just recreational activities but also provide the foundation for a wide range of lifelong skills.

Climbing and bouldering provide the opportunity to engage in fun and adventurous physical exercise, at the same time as cultivating skills including balance, coordination, problem solving, strategic thinking and decision making.

Climbing and bouldering also foster social skills like teamwork and communication, as well as self-esteem and confidence, laying the foundation for a well-rounded and resilient future.

We offer weekly courses during term time as well as week-long courses in the Easter and Summer school holidays.

Climbing or Bouldering – which one is best for you?

Climbing involves ascending larger structures, with the use of harnesses and ropes. Climbing routes can be lengthy, requiring sustained effort and developing endurance as climbers navigate various holds and obstacles.

Bouldering is characterised by shorter, lower heights with more intense routes, typically tackled without ropes, emphasising strength and technique over endurance.

What climbing and bouldering courses do we offer?

We offer climbing and bouldering courses each week during term time and weekly courses during the Easter and Summer school holidays. These courses are available for the public to book.

Perse Climbing Academy (NICAS) Climbing Levels

We offer Climbing and Bouldering Levels 1-4 for children aged 7 years and above.

Wild Climbers (NICAS)

Our Wild Climbers courses are for children aged 3 – 7 years. They provide a fun, game orientated programme that introduces climbers safely into the indoor climbing environment. The sessions develop awareness of climbing movements and confidence.

Class Sizes

For children attending the NICAS levels 1-4, class sizes will be up to 18, with a staff ratio of 1:9 for the majority of courses. For children attending the Wild Climbers courses, class sizes are a maximum of 12, with a staff ratio of 1:6.

Lesson Costs and Session Times

All sessions last for one hour. NICAS Levels 1-2 cost £25 per hour, Level 3 costs £30 per hour and level 4 costs £35 per hour. The Wild Climbers course is £30. Classes are paid for on a termly basis.

Where a child is unwell or unable to attend their weekly class, no refunds will be given. Parents should give six weeks’ notice if they wish to cancel their child’s place in a climbing or bouldering class.

Pay and Climb

Whether you’re a climbing novice or an experienced climber, we offer ‘pay and climb’ sessions, for both adults and children to book. Further details coming soon.

Club Access

Our climbing academy facilities are available to hire by climbing clubs. If you’re interested in finding out more please email sportscentre@perse.co.uk
